Christmas basket: a road block for donations

It is the time of giving and the different municipalities in the North Shore are all organizing food drives and multiple other volunteering events to help people in difficult situations. Organizations that are shared between cities are also contributing and the different fire departments are no slouches when it come to volunteering.

The Deux-Montagnes / Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac intermunicipal fire safety service is organizing a roadblock on Saturday, December 11, on Boulevard des Promenades, to collect donations for the less fortunate people in the community. The firefighters will appeal to the generosity of passers-by from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the corner of 28e Avenue in Deux-Montagnes.

The donations collected will be given equally to the organization Dépannage Saint-Agapit in Deux-Montagnes and to the Optimist Club of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, which will improve the Christmas baskets in preparation. Dépannage Saint-Agapit was a parish organization that had existed for several decades. They incorporated it in 1995 and since 1999 they have had a company number and have a receipt number for tax purposes. Their organization serves the City of Deux-Montagnes. Its mission is to help low-income families and individuals. This assistance is mainly provided in the form of Christmas baskets and food assistance that they allocate throughout the year.

Their goals of the club are to develop Optimism as a philosophy of life inspired by the principles of the Optimist Creed, to encourage active participation in public affairs, to inspire respect for the law, to promote patriotism and to work for international harmony and friendship between peoples, to help young people and promote their development, convinced that serving their neighbor in a disinterested way that contributes to the well-being of human beings, their communities, and the whole world.
