The celebration of the Town of Rosemere’s 50th anniversary turned a nice profit. Sales of a commemorative book, 50 years of art: Yesterday, today and…tomorrow, depicting Rosemere sites, contributed significantly to the success. During a recent ceremony at the H.J. Hemens Municipal Library held in conjunction with the dissolution of the organizing committee, organizers of the year-long celebration handed over $6,404 to the leaders of about a half-dozen local non-profit groups to assist them with the work they do in the community.
Local groups benefit
Mayor Hélène Daneault said she was especially pleased that the money was going towards organizations such as Rosemere’s municipal housing authority (the OMH), the Rosemere Gardens, the Hamilton Gardens, meals-on-wheels, the RVS boutique, the Rosemere Guides, the 49th Rosemere-Lorraine Scouts, the Rosemere artists’ collective (RAR) and Entraide Rosemere. “We are pleased that this money is going towards these organizations who will be able to provide assistance to the citizens of our city,” she said.
‘Extraordinary work’
Daneault made a point of acknowledging the contribution made by Wendy Gurd, president of the Corporation de Fêtes du 50e anniversaire. “The 50th anniversary of Rosemere took a lot of time and I would like to thank all the members of the committee,” Gurd said. “I am very proud of you. I think we did extraordinary work.” The book, which was conceived and produced by Kateri Lesage and Kathy Nolan, was launched last August. Cataloguing the work of numerous Rosemere artists, the book was largely the result of two exhibitions held in June 2008 as part of the 50th anniversary events.
