out and cheer for freestyle skier Alexandre Bilodeau on Feb. 14.

With ample reason to be proud of one of its citizens who is competing for a top spot in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, the Town of Rosemere is calling upon all residents to come out and cheer Alexandre Bilodeau during a “tailgate party” being held on Sunday Feb. 14 starting at 4:30 p.m. in the train station parking lot. The championship freestyle skiier is a longtime Rosemere resident.

A real champ
Bilodeau is a member of the Canadian team going at the 2010 Winter Olympics. In 2006, he finished 11th at the Olympics and later in the world cup season became the youngest athlete in history to win a World Cup moguls event. In the 2005-06 overall World Cup standings he managed to finish second and won the FIS rookie of the year title.
In February 2009, he won four straight World Cup events and was part of two Canadian sweeps of the men's podium in moguls. Following these victories Bilodeau clinched the overall moguls title on Feb. 20 last year. At the 2009 Freestyle World Championships he finished eighth in the moguls event and followed that by winning gold in the dual moguls. Those attending the event in Rosemere this Sunday will be able to watch on a giant TV screen as Bilodeau goes through qualification runs.

A leading athlete
“Everyone is invited to come out to encourage Alexandre, who is one of the leading lights of the 2010 Games,” says Rosemere mayor Hélène Daneault. The Café de la Gare, O’Neils Pub and the local McDonald’s restaurant are helping to sponsor this special event. Fast food will be available on site. There will also be “surprises,” music and all the great atmosphere of an exciting sporting event. In case of bad weather, the event will be held at the Memorial Community Centre. For the last four years, McDonald’s has also helped sponsor the training of athletes, including Alexandre Bilodeau. Alexandre’s sister, Béatrice, will be travelling to the games, although not to compete as an athlete.
