On August 24, the Deux-Montagnes Robert Landry Team unveiled two new candidates for the upcoming municipal elections scheduled November 1. France Roy and Guillaume Bouvrette will be running in the Du Grand Moulin and Du Coteau quarters respectively.
Roy will be the first woman to join Landry's team and Bouvrette will be the youngest. "I'm very happy to present my third and fourth candidates for the election. We now have a woman on our team, Roy, who has a lot of financial expertise, and a young, energetic voice with Guillaume," stated Landry.
Meet the candidates
Roy has been a living in the Du Grand Moulin quarter since 1974 and believes her strong financial background will be an asset if she gains the seat. "I know first-hand the needs of the community and I want to bring a positive contribution to the municipal council. With my experience, I believe I have all the tools necessary to improve the quality of life for my fellow citizens," she explained.
Roy worked as an administrative technician for the Centre hospitalier de Saint-Eustache and helped put in place adapted transport at the MRC Deux-Montagnes when she worked at Manoir Saint-Eustache. Roy believes proximity to citizens and an understanding of their needs is the best approach to the post. "I want us to use our common sense, be rational, and focus. We have to ask citizens what they want. We have to think like a citizen, not like someone in power," stated Roy.
For Bouvrette, this is his first foray into politics. He is looking forward to bringing his voice to the party and making a difference. At 23 years old, Bouvrette studied at L'Université de Montréal's business school and  worked for two years at Sun Life Financial Group as an advisor. "I want to be the voice of my generation," he said. Bouvrette also hopes to connect with the youth of Deux-Montagnes and help lower the local high school drop-out rate. "If we look at Polyvalente Deux-Montagnes (PDM), the drop-out rate is 53% for boys and 48% for girls. We have to look at what's going to happen to these people down the road. Guillaume will be able to help with that," said Landry.
Challenges ahead
Landry also outlined the challenges that lay ahead for Deux-Montagnes. "One of our biggest challenges is to keep a balances budget. I would say it's the biggest challenge to look at the structure and restructuring our city so it can be more efficient. We have to be able to balance our budget with what we have," explained Landry.
Landry's team will also be focusing on the challenges of snow removal which is a big preoccupation for the citizens of Deux-Montagnes. "They are ways of improving it but you have to put the time into it," stated Landry.
As the election date draws closer, Landry promises to unveil two more candidates, as well as further plans and projects for Deux-Montagnes. "Tonight my main objective was to release the next two candidates to the public. We look forward to discussing our projects in more detail in the coming weeks," explained Landry.
