Itll be fiesta time in downtown Rosemere on Saturday, Aug. 8, starting at 10 a.m.
This years Mexican-themed cultural event during the towns Autre Marché
public market has Quebec actor Roc Lafortune (third from left) as patron of honour,
seen here with Mayor Hélène Daneault (to the immediate right), as well as
employees of the town and representatives of the merchants association.

The Town of Rosemere will be holding its third annual public market, the Autre Marché, with a special theme " a Mexican fiesta " while lending its support to Action Autisme, a non-profit group dedicated to helping autistic children.
The fiesta, which starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday Aug. 8 when the market opens in the municipal Library parking lot (339 Grande Côte), will include a demonstration of Mexican cuisine until 3 p.m. From 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the municipal swimming pool, children will be able to create piatas while accompanied by Mexican music and dancing, with the participation of the Club Option Jeunesse.
Starting at 5 p.m., the fiesta will be moving over to the community services department (325 Grande-Côte), where Mexican food will be served, following which there will be a mariachi show that will end at 9 p.m. Admission is free to all the activities, except at the pool where a non-resident fee will be charged, although all proceeds will be given to Action Autisme, in addition to the funds raised from the sale of Mexican food and beverages. Quebec actor Roc Lafortune, a Rosemere resident known for his roles in the movie series Les Boys and the TV series Omerta, has agreed to be the patron of honor at the fiesta.
The idea of holding a Mexican fiesta, according to Mayor Hélène Daneault, came from Lafortune, who proposed it to her in May, while suggesting at the same time that Action Autisme could be the principal beneficiary. "The idea appealed to me immediately," Daneault said during a press briefing this past Wednesday. "With the arrival of the public market we saw a chance of doing it, while adding special theme as well as a way for people to get to know another culture."
Lafortune said the idea of a Mexican theme came from his wife who is Mexican. They will both be contributing some handiwork of their own by creating piatas for the celebration. Voyage Vasco Rosemère will be participating by holding a draw for a one-week vacation for two people to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. The trip includes accommodation at the five-star Hotel Riu Tequila. Tickets for the draw will be sold for $2 during the day´s activities, with all the proceeds going to Action Autisme. The draw will take place on the evening of the Mexican fiesta.
