The weekend of Mother’s Day, the
Canadian Multiple Sclerosis Society in
Thérèse-De Blainville/Basses-Laurentides
will be launching its 2009 MS Carnation
Campaign to help raise funds for research.
The event, organized by the Canadian MS
Society, will coincide with MS Awareness
month. This year’s spokesperson is Sophie
Thibault, an anchor on TVA’s 22 heures.
It is with great pleasure that Denis
Joanette will join the Canadian MS
Society’s Thérèse-De Blainville/Basses-
Laurentides chapter as honorary chairman
of the campaign. Joannette invites the
public to offer hope to people affected this
insidious disease by making a donation or
by purchasing carnations the weekend of
Mother’s Day.
The MS Carnation Campaign will be held
from May 7 to May 10 across the province
of Quebec. Last year, approximately 10,000
carnations were sold in our sector, which
helped collect $15,000. This year’s goal is
$18,000.
In public places across the territory,
volunteers will be offering carnations, a
symbol of hope for the 13 000 to 18 000
people with MS in Quebec, in exchange for
a donation. MS is the neurological disease
most prevalent amongst young adults in
Canada. The disease mainly affects people
between 15 to 40 years old. Everyday, three
Canadians learns that they have MS, in a
ratio of three women to one man. Each
year, about 50 children are diagnosed with
MS.
