Saint-Eustache joins the Joint Municipal Court of Deux-Montagnes
(NSN)

The Mayor of Saint-Eustache, Mr. Claude Carignan, and the Mayor of Deux-Montagnes, Mr. Marc Lauzon, announced that the City of Saint-Eustache is joining the Joint Municipal Court of Deux-Montagnes. In so doing, Saint-Eustache is joining six other city members within the Deux-Montagnes RCM, namely, Deux-Montagnes, Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Oka, Pointe-Calumet, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac and Saint-Placide.

Effective next April 30, all cases handled by the Municipal Court of Saint-Eustache will be transferred to the Joint Municipal Court of Deux-Montagnes. Consequently, all criminal offences committed on the territory of Saint-Eustache will, from now on, be processed in Deux-Montagnes.

The Mayor of Saint-Eustache, Claude Carignan, described this decision as “logical and coherent”. “In my opinion, this is a perfect example of actions we must take, in collaboration with neighbouring cities, in order to achieve healthy and efficient management of public funds. By combining our respective expertise and our resources,” he added, “we can streamline costs and still provide our citizens with first quality services.”

As for the Mayor of Deux-Montagnes, Mr. Marc Lauzon, he added: “The success of this agreement, concluded between cities within the same RCM, clearly demonstrates the advantages of such an association. This type of partnership is not only beneficial in that costs can be shared, but it also benefits the citizens whose service will be enhanced by combining both expertises.”

The Municipal Court of Saint-Eustache, which was temporarily located at 168 Dorion Street, will therefore permanently close at noon, on April 27. Case files will be transferred to Deux-Montagnes on April 28 and 29; therefore, it will not be possible for users of the Court of Saint-Eustache to make any transactions during this period. Customers will not be penalized by this operation and can pay their tickets as of April 30, 2009, at the Joint Municipal Court of Deux-Montagnes at 1502 Oka Road, Deux-Montagnes (Information: 450 473-8688). Business hours are: Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 to 5 p.m., and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

It should be noted that Mrs. Francyne Tanguay, formerly clerk at the Municipal Court for the City of Saint-Eustache, will now be directing the new Joint Municipal Court of Deux-Montagnes. Two employees from the City of Saint-Eustache will join the new team, which now consists of eight people. The group will move into recently renovated offices, in order to improve service to citizens.

The mayors of Saint-Eustache and Deux-Montagnes concluded this agreement, proud of the positive attitude that reigned throughout the entire negotiation process between both entities. They insisted on thanking the personnel from both cities, the employees from both municipal courts, as well as the elected officials for their excellent collaboration.

Remember that the Joint Municipal Court of Deux-Montagnes is a court of first instance whose mission is to provide proximity justice easily accessible to citizens. This service sees to the legal follow-up of tickets distributed on the territory regarding violations to municipal bylaws and to the Road Safety Code. Its mandate is to collect payment for all violation tickets, to organize municipal court proceedings, to execute judgements and to provide information to citizens with regard to various legal procedures.
