In 2009, the town of Rosemère will be investing over $250 000 in a various projects to improve the city's parks and green spaces. "Our population is changing and we are proud to tailor our facilities to this new reality," said Rosemère mayor Hélène Daneault in a statement.
This, of course, means that some spaces will be redeveloped but also that others will be completed. For example, the equipment at Parc Lacroix will be replaced with new ones for different age groups and a new lighting system will be installed at the soccer and football fields of Parc Northcote. It will become the fourth park in Rosemère to offer lit space to play in the evening hours.
"However, the most innovative of our development projects will no doubt be the concept established in Hamilton Park, tailored specifically to citizens 50 years or older," said Daneault. Located in the western part of the city, just behind Galeries Mille-Îles shopping mall, Hamilton Park will be installed with light outdoor circuit training equipment aimed specifically for baby boomers.
The area will consist of six different devices that will work out all parts of the body. "We are proud to be the first in the region to install such equipment to meet a growing need in our population. This initiative demonstrates once more how the health of our citizens is important to us," stated Daneault.
Made in Germany, some of the six devices have more than one function so there will be a total of ten different exercises available to partake in. The equipment is specifically adapted to the health needs of people aged 50 years and over, and will help build muscle and promote good blood circulation with smooth, coordinated movements.
Many baby boomers are reaching the age of retirement and physical activity is essential for good overall health. The circuit equipment at Hamilton Park will bring many benefits. Access will be completely free, at any time of the day. And what better way to exercise than outdoors, at their own pace, and close to home. "Our investments in parks and green spaces are one of the means set forth by our administration to provide our citizens the best quality of life possible," said Daneault.
