Team Daneault officially announced two candidates for the Town of Rosemere Municipal Council by-elections which will take place September 28th. Wendy Gurd and Madeleine Leduc will each be running for Seats 1 and 3 respectively.
Mayor Helene Daneault was pleased with the announcement which took place August 5 at the newly-opened Bleu Blanc Rouge resto bar on Labelle. "Both women are active in the community and bringing relevant experience to the team. We believe they are the ideal candidates for the position," she said.
Emotions high
The by-election is taking place to replace two vacancies following the death of Marc Rivard (Seat 3) and resignation of Delphine Roigt (Seat 1). Rivard was Madeleine Leduc's husband, and she is now running for his seat in hopes to continue her husband's legacy. "I want to continue the work he started. I want to to maintain his vision of integrity and a transparent government," she said, becoming emotional.
The impact of the loss has affected the Municipal Council immensely. "We are like a family. We are still very emotional about it and it's not easy to talk about," said Daneault. "But we are very pleased to have Leduc be part of our team. She is bringing her expertise as a lawyer to the table, which is what Rivard specialized in as well," she said. Leduc is also president of the admininistrative council for the Fondation le Verdier and a council member for Centre jeunesse des Laurentides.
Returning to office
For Wendy Gurd, the Munipal Council is familiar territory. She was a councilor from 1997-2005 but stepped back to take a break and focus on her family. However, she has stayed active in the community ever since. President of the Rosemere 50th Anniversary celebrations this year and administrator for the Drapeau-Deschambeault Foundation since 1998, Gurd is now running for Seat 1. "I am excited for this new challenge and being part of the team. Team Daneault has done some excellent work since 2005 when they came in office and I am looking forward to working with them for the community," said Gurd.
The by-election will take place Sunday September 28th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Since the Town of Rosemere is not separated into districts,  all electors will be called to vote. Electors will be able to cast their vote at Ecole Alpha located at 334 Academie street. "We want to the public to know that we chose these two candidates very carefully. We feel they possess similar qualities and values as Mr. Rivard and Ms. Roigt before them but also bring something new. Gurd's experience in the community and Leduc's professional background and legal knowledge will be a great addition to the team," said Daneault.
