In view of a recent decision by Dr. Christiane Arbour not to seek the renewal of her mandate as head of the administration at CSSS Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes, the board of administration has nominated Dr. Pierre Gfeller as interim director-general at the local health agency.
Track record
Dr. Gfeller is well known in the Upper Laurentians region, where he was director-general of the CSSS Antoine-Labelle from November 2004 until recently. With the help of his team in a period of four years at CSSS Antoine-Labelle, he was able to reorganize the health and social services to improve access there, as well as the continuity and the quality of services offered to his fellow citizens, all the while reaching a balanced budget in 2005-2006, for the first time in a decade.
Vast experience
Prior to that, Dr. Gfeller worked as regional director of medical and hospital affairs at the Agence de santé et des services sociaux des Laurentides, and as director of professional and hospital services at the Centre hospitalier et de réadaptation Antoine-Labelle. From 1981 to 1998, he was a medical doctor with a general practice set up in the MRC Antoine-Labelle.
Dr. Gfeller completed his medical studies at McGill University. He has a diploma of higher learning from University of Laval with a specialization in community health (with a work health option), an Executive MBA from the University of Paris-Dauphine, and a Masters in business administration from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM).
Term starts June 2
Dr. Gfeller is renowned for his warmth, transparency, integrity and competence. His interim term heading the CSSS Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes administration begins on June 2. "We are delighted to welcome Dr. Gfeller," said Antonio Lavigne, president of the CSSS's administrative board. "We are convinced that his vast experience, as well as his skills, will be put to good use in the administration of the CSSS and that his leadership will facilitate this transition period."
