“Cherchez la femme” or “Berniergate”

By James Ryan

There is a saying that the best and worst things in the World are Fire, Water, and
a female.
Those “three elements” if we can call them such can provide the best of things
but also can be devastating. Fire gives as heat but also can be an element of destruction.
Water is essential for our survival as nourishment, but it is also an element of destruction.
A female gives life and support. You must have heard behind every great man you will
find a supportive woman. But on the other hand you have heard of women that brought
destruction to the man they “loved”. Sometimes -and history has shown us- certain females
have such a destructive power that whole empires may fall like playing cards. THis
became the case with Julie Couillard.
As things develop, Couillard’s brief companionship to foreign affairs minister Maxime
Bernier has not only taken a toll on his political career, but at the same time embarrassed
the Tory government more than any other situation since they got elected. Furthermore
it gave ammunition to the opposition parties to attack Harper and to question his ability
to govern.
Who, when, why and what (concerning the bugs in Couillard’s box spring) will stay
unanswered for now. Let’s not forget “IF”. How sure are we that Couillard’s bedroom was
bugged? I do not believe that AXIS forces (now called Talibans) put the “bugs” to hear
what? How ill-equipped our army is in Afghanistan? It is strange though that Couillard
tried to obtain the biometric security contract in the Canadian Airports. It is also strange
that it took so long to return confidential documents to the government.
The “Berniergate” which I will call it from now on, has given propulsion to all opposition
parties to attack -as I said before- Harper’s government on a security matter. This consensus
all of a sudden may result to a confidence vote which this time without any other choice
Liberals, NDPs and Bloc will vote together pushing Harper to call an election. Maybe is
what he was seeking in the first place... Thanks to Bernier or/and his former companion,
now he can go to the polls to get his long wished majority.
